7 Health Tips to Survive Christmas

cartoon santaWe are approaching the season of good will towards men, but when did that ever mean eating and drinking to excess?

Did you know that the average Britain puts on an average of 11 pounds over the Christmas period – remember it is a whole lot easier to put weight on that to lose it!

Christmas and New Year is the time of year when damage limitation needs to be brought into action. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you stay on track with your Christmas eating and drinking:

1.  Start your day with a healthy breakfast.  Good rule to follow: eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and supper like a pauper. Choose omelettes over cereal!
2.  Curb your appetite.  Drink water before every meal. Your brain can mistake dehydration for hunger. A good rule of thumb is to drink 1 litre for every 50lb you weigh per day

3.  Slow down.  Eat slower and taste your food.  It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to recognize how much is in your stomach, don’t overeat!
4.  Set goals for over the holidays.  Read them first thing in the morning, throughout the day and before bed.  Share these goals with somebody to help you stay accountable!

5.  Don’t go anywhere hungry.  Arrive at any holiday parties having already eaten something healthy.  That way you won’t be too prone to digging into high-calorie party foods.

6.  Decide how many drinks you are going to have before the party.  Choose light and clear alcohol over dark, and alternate between an alcohol beverage (if you are drinking) and water (same goes for soda).  Alcohol is liquid sugar and goes straight to the fat cells!  Try not to drink your calories for the day!

7.  Exercise on days you eat a holiday meal.  Write a plan for your work outs over Christmas. Aim to exercise before a big meal. After exercise our bodies are more sensitive to insulin, which will help prevent the body storing ALL the excess calories as fat.  E.g. think squats or lunges for 30s on and then 30s off for 4 mins and then switch to press-ups or tricep dips.  Just excuse yourself to a bedroom/bathroom or get the family to join in 🙂
I’m quite strict when it comes to telling clients and boot camper members what to do to get fit and lose weight quickly, but in this case damage limitation is key!

Merry Christmas!

Kill Your Addictions, the Path to Self Mastery

We live in a world where everything is moving so fast that if you blink you would miss something. The people in it have totally lost the ability to be self aware. Too many times things are just accepted, aches and pains, poor sleep, headaches etc are written off as “life” or getting old. What they don’t realise is that if they just stopped and thought about themselves and how they are living their lives they would realise that they are responsible for how they look and feel and they also have the power th change it if necessary.

How can people change the world, when they cannot even change themselves? they think power comes from accumulating wealth or acquiring material posessions, whilst in reality if they looked closer to home they would realise the the power they seek is within them. Everything you can achieve starts with you and only you.

Mastering yourself is the way to unlocking your true potential.

SELF MASTERY

there is a verse from the Bhagavad – gita that says:

“Live the self by the self, never let the self droop down, the self is the self’s only friend, the self is the self’s only enemy”

what does that mean?

That true power comes from you and you have the ability to harness it. It also says that you are the only person who can hold yourself back. There is noone to blame but yourself. So the next time you catch yourself blaming someone or something else, realise this; you are giving power your away to them, why would you do that? why would you let someone else have a hold over you? Think about it, if you accept the responsibility then it is within you to sort it out.

If you believe it is someone else’s fault how can you ever resolve it and move on?

The path to self mastery is to start with your palate. what you eat, drink, ingest, read, hear, and who you are influenced by has a massive impact on who you are and what you do.

Until people who are overweight or have addictions sort this out then how can they even think about helping other people?

Master what you eat and drink, this is paramount

Shit in = shit out – period!

Everything you eat causes a hormonal response, your body can only work with what you give it. If you feed it crap, if you abuse it, your hormones will be affected.

And here’s the thing. what you eat affects your hormones, but your hormones affect your behaviours, So how you act is affected by what you eat, drink and ingest through your senses!

How can it not be that way!

Do not indulge in excess if you want to be successful and live a happy fulfilling life.

Realise what you are taking in on your television, in the papers and radio. The news for example is massively negative. If you watch doom and gloom all day (which is what you will be doing, as the media knows that tragedy sells) then guess how you will be feeling. You are massively influenced by what you take in. Your whole reality is based on what you are taking in on a daily basis.

You literally are what you eat, drink and watch on television, listen on the radio and who you hang around with on a daily basis. If they are negative, then you need to change it because you will feel the affects. Why would you want to willingly feel like this?

Food is the major addiction of many people in this modern world, however many people are incomplete denial that it is an addiction.

I mentioned our influences before, well food can be thought of as our first influence. Control of your food is vital to being fit and healthy. As you may have heard many times before, you are what you eat, food is taken apart and it becomes you.

You know that if you put diesel in a petrol engine then it will break it. It is the same with the food that you consume, however why are people still surprised that when they continue to put shit in their mouths that they feel shit and fall ill or when they drink poison or listen to crap that they feel down and out?

Incorrect eating will lead to stress as the body tries to deal with all the crap. And when the body is stressed it shuts down and this can cause real damage due to the amount of hormones released, which are detrimental to your health.

All addictions are controlling and disempowering. they talk to you subtly at first, tell you moderation is good, just have a little bit, you have had a hard day, you have earned it, whos gonna know, you deserve a treat. However as the addiction grows it becomes a war of attrition to try and control it. The inner voice that started off encouraging you is now in full control telling you anything and everything to get what it wants.

How many of you just give up and eat crap because they cannot be bothered to make anything healthy and so reach for the takeaway menu? most people aren’t even aware of it and would think that it is their choice, but in reality it isn’t. It is your addiction to food that is controlling.

It’s the same with drink, I have had many mates who use a hard days graft any night of the week as an excuse to drink. Now we all know about alcohol and you can have a great night out every now and then, but every night and into oblivion??

There are too many people out there claiming to be experts in training and nutrition and these are the same people who do not practice what they preach. Life gets in the way.

But let me ask you this. How can you be an expert at something, and try to help people when you cannot master the basic principles yourself?

So whats the answer?

TRUE POWER

stop feeding you addictions, remove their power and they will shrivel up and die, but also remember that addictions are cunning and will not go without a fight. Be aware at all times, do not let them back in! You have to be strong on all fronts and just like any other habit they will go and be replaced be another better one.

Start by addressing your food and drinking habits. If you are overweight then, remove all the garbage you are eating, write down everything and start making adjustments be eating healthier, natural foods. Look at making your diet up with 80% of one ingredient foods, drink more fresh water and less tea, coffee and fizzy drinks.

Stop watching the news or sensationalistic programs and start feeding your mind with inspirational programs. Read more motivational and inspirational things instead of what celebrity has had what done, who cares!!

Look at the company you keep, are they dragging you down?

Be brutally honest! if they are, look at gradually finding people who are more engaging and not gossip mongers who are an extension of the news on TV.

Change can be scary and uncomfortable, but they are only feelings that cannot harm you. When you change everything around you will change. Take control of your life and don’t worry about the people around you adjusting, work on yourself and by becoming more self aware, controlling your food, removing addictions and bad habits you will find that you will Shine.

Lets all shine together

“Healthier biscuits”, Fat Kids and McDonalds Calorie Counting!

I am truly passionate about what I do. I know in my very soul that I want to help people achieve greatness. Now “Greatness” can mean a whole host of different things to different people. But whether it is to lose weight, get fit, feel better, what ever it is I know I can play a part on their road to achieving just that.

Because I am so passionate I let emotion bubble over and things really really get to me and ranting ensures….cue ranting!

Yesterday I was in a supermarket and as i was meandering along the isles looking for what I was after (don’t you just hate it when supermarkets move all their products around, whilst strategically putting their new lines where the product you were after was for example. I get the whole marketing thing, but it is a ball ache).

Anyway I digress, Looking up an isle I was reading the product signs. In this particular isle a sign read biscuits, then further along another sign read healthier biscuits??? I mean wtf??? “healthier biscuits”!! like there is such a thing in a super market. I was half expecting to see “healthiest biscuits” at the end! I mean come on, I shudder to think that this marketing actually works. We all know that everyone looks for a quick fix to their long term health issues, but it really winds me up when time after time the food industry seeks to cash in on peoples insecurities to make another fast buck.

I know this isn’t new, the food industry are only interested in how much money can be made, beleive me, they don’t give a shit about your health, they really don’t. If they did they wouldn’t disguise food additives as other things so as to make you think it is free of the crap they say it is. I mean, for example saying a packet of hula hoops have no MSG in them then stating yeast extract as one of the ingredients on the back!!

I could rant on for ages about the food industry, but i am not, I wanted to turn my attention to the second part of my rant and that is “Fat Kids”.

I am not going to be politically correct about this and this needs saying. Parents of this world need to buck their ideas up and stop making their kids FAT!!! If I have one pet hate it is this one.

I was recently on a break with my family and we were at Chessington World of Adventure in London and i saw a boy of I am guessing 10. He was the fattest kid I had ever seen, I couldn’t beleive what I was seeing. His head was so big you could hardly see his eyes and had man boobs that would make any glamour model jealous!! My anger was directed straight to the parents for letting this lad get into this state, I had to move away before my mouth got me into trouble. Emotions can have a habit of doing that before your reasoning kicks in! I also saw an even younger lad in the supermarket as recently as yesterday, who was well on the way to the same fate.

I had to actually stop myself from speaking my disgust in the metrocentre not long ago when i saw a parent force feeding a cap full of coke to a 6 month old baby, the baby didn’t even want it and was trying to turn away! I literally had to bite my tongue as the urge was so strong to tell this person how stupid she was being!

I am sure I am not the only one who notices this on a daily basis, I just got to a point where I had to get it off my chest.

There is just no need for this at all, The parents are at fault. There is just no excuse to let you kids get so big, there just isn’t. I mean who are the adults here? since when do we allow ourselves to be dictated to by kids? We as parents have a job to do and a responsibility look after our children and so if parents are going to give into kids demands over and over and let them have bags of sweets and fizzy pop, what are we teaching them?? Tough love people, we need to cut that shit out and start looking after the future of our world. If parents truly love their kids and I am sure the majority really do, then they need to MTFU and help them be the best they can be.

I couldn’t end this rant without commenting on the news story about McDonalds putting calory values on their food.

Do we really need to know that a Big Mac is 500 calories REALLY??? I cannot beleive that everyone thought that this food was ok until they said how many calories were in it. As I was watching the news i watched someone being interviewed for this story saying it was a good idea because now we will know what we are eating!!! SERIOUSLY??? you mean you didn’t know before that mcdonalds was crap?? and now you know you are gonna stop eating it?? I don’t think so. Humans have the uncanny knack of thinking that nothing can harm them, thats what happens to other people. Well I am sorry, we may be genetically different, but if you put garbage in, then garbage comes out and in this case, that can be all manner of ailments!

Everbody, no matter who they are needs to start dealing with the consequences of their actions, whilst they say ignorance is bliss, it really isn’t, it is a road to an unhealthy life, which can result in depression, anxiety, being overweight and a list of potential fatal diseases such as cancer.

The time is now to start getting healthy and looking after ourselves and our familys. Start taking responsibility for our actions, that means looking closer to home before looking to blame anything and every thing else. Only you can make the changes to lead a better, healthier life, why not start today!
