Express, Expand and Grow

I get it, life can be hard,

it has challenges.

I have had more than my fair share, believe me.

But I know I was put on this earth for a purpose.

and I also know that you were too!

Sometimes it takes a while to realise that.

Sometimes it takes a while to even believe it.

Sometimes it takes a while to know what it is.

It lies there in you, waiting to be discovered.

The beauty of it is…

..as my coach keeps reminding me oh so subtly and sometimes directly is this…

…you just need to SHOW UP!

Allow the real YOU to show up in the world.

EVERY DAY!

Everywhere you make an appearance,

Whether it be with yourself, your family, your friends or co workers.

Every comment you make, advice you give, have the courage to let out what is inside of you.

Every time you post on social media…

…are you living your real life or a persona of who you wish to be?

are you pretending to be someone else to “fit in”?

I can tell you now, I am still working on this, Every single day, I really am.

And you should too.

Every day is an Opportunity to shine

Every day is an opportunity to Express, expand and grow yourSELF

whether that is good or bad it is your choice to make.

You have that power, when you take responsibility for every thought you have, every decision you make.

So YOU choose who you want to be and how you show up in the world.

Are you going to choose to expand, choose to express, choose to grow?

Or are you going to choose stay in the dark, enveloped by fear?

In a world where almost every human lives in fear of judgement, I get that the thought of feeling socially excluded is a threat to people and I get it.

But the real you is so unique and so beautiful that you do not need to be anybody else.

You can choose how you want to live and how you want to feel.

So why not choose love over fear, light over dark, thrive over survive?

So Show up, every day and the person you were born to be

that powerful purpose that lives in ALL of us, is waiting to be unleashed

Do it now, Define who YOU are and who YOU want to be

You may just find out that you are good enough after all

🙂

Be True (to yourself)
Be Courageous (to be YOU)
Be Happy (With your SELF)

I Have No Time…. Is that True?

The biggest issue people claim to have is time or lack of it.

I do not agree.

Every person in the world has the same amount of time.

Both Successful and unsuccessful.

168 hrs in a week in fact

It is how you use your time that matters most.

But before you say you have no time

Before you say its ok for everyone else

Lets break down a basic week…

Tick Tick Tick…

There are 168 hours in one week.

But there are some things we have to factor in, some things we have to do in those 168 hours.

Sleep…. lets say everyone sleeps 8 hours a night (which they don’t, but for ease of explanation) that is 56 hours a week

Work… Now lets think about work, lets say 40 hours. Again this is usually way off the mark, most people are stressed to the eye balls and work more

168-56-40 = 72 hours left

so there is a whole 72 hours left.

Where are your spare 72 hours going?

Now I know there is family life and cooking meals, grooming etc

But you have to take stock and think about the most important person!

You Time

Out of the 72 hours you must be able to take a minimum of 20 minutes out of your day for you and only you. to read, relax, go for a walk.

Just Switch off!!

Maybe you can use that time to be grateful for the things or people in your life.

To Meditate.

To focus on the things you do want to happen, the things you can do for you and Not all the things you don’t want.

Ever noticed that your focus a lot of the time is on what you don’t want, what you are sick of and NOT on what you do want?

Change that shit, focus only on what you want in your life.

Then there is the time to look after yourself physically

Finding a minimum of 3 x 45 mins of that week to exercise

Hell, if you really think you have used that whole 72 hours up you can still train hard and do 5 x 10 minute training sessions per week. Thats not even an hour!

What about food prep? 1-2 hours per week to plan and batch cook meals to help you through the week?

That still leaves ample time for your kids, for your significant other or to socialise.

Excuses Excuses

If you are still using time as an excuse

then what are you doing with those 72 hours?

seriously, write that shit down, right now. work out where your time goes!

You will be amazed at how much time you waste in a day!

I know EVERYONE experiences this. I know I have. I am getting better at it, but it takes discipline and commitment

Remind yourself to slow down. To reduce stress. To realise you CANNOT do everything and you certainly shouldn’t be trying to prove yourself to anyone else!

I have been there and it doesn’t end well.

So focus on what you really want to do, cut out the mindless TV. Stop sedating yourself and face what is making you unhappy and start enjoying your life.

If you are too busy for “You time” are these other things really so important that you have to make yourself unhappy by doing them as soon as possible?

So What Gives?

Here is what I see…

People overburdened with everything they think they should be doing to appease someone else or doing things to avoid, numb or sedate themselves with alcohol, computer games, reality tv, drugs, anything to stop them from thinking about the things they hate doing.

People claim they have no time, then create stories and excuses around why they haven’t got time to do xyz. when in fact they are hiding behind the real reason why they don’t do what they really want to do and don’t want to be true and honest with themselves.

Be honest with your SELF!

People overload and overwhelm themselves resulting in:

more stress,

over eating,

emotional eating

and generally being wired to the moon by restless sleep, lack of sleep and incorrect eating habits.

Just Stop!

The key here is to STOP

The answer to stress and overwhelm is not to try and do more

it is to do less

it is to stop and remember who is the most important person in your life

That is YOU by the way!

Take care of you first.

If you are stressed, stop and ask your self why that is.

Ask yourself how you can change it

If you are overwhelmed and doing too much, ask yourself is this benefiting you? or are you trying to appease others before yourSELF?

Can you do less per day, can you expect less of yourself and be kinder to yourself?

More time to for yourSELF would mean less stress and time to rejuvenate, to feel unburdened, to rediscover the REAL you.

Looking after yourself by creating better eating habits resulting in better health, energy and happiness?

So the next time you say you haven’t got time for you. STOP and ask yourself why?

And make sure you grab that YOU time that you really need.

Have Courage
Be Happy

Coconuts – The Ultimate Super Food

Are Coconuts the Secret to Optimal Health?

Back in the day when I was young I didn’t like coconut.

The reason?

Because I didn’t like bounty bars, the texture and flavour was just awful. So from then on I just decided that I hated coconut.

True Story!

That truth stayed with me for 20 years until I was offered some fresh coconut after some scuba diving and never looked back.

Anyway…

Since then I have used it extensively because of how beneficial it is to our health and so I thought I would share this with you in this article.

Now coconut is available in many different products these days (oil, water, milk etc) and all of it is excellent for you.

In fact I would call it a food of the gods, a true super food with many many health properties.

So can this humble fruit really be a complete superfood that can help prevent heart disease and enhance restorative health? Lets find out…

So why is it so good for you?

It has a unique combination of fatty acids that can have some incredible benefits including

  • fat loss
  • improved brain function
  • Stabilize Blood Sugar
  • Regulate Hormones
  • Increase thyroid production
  • Fight infections
  • Kill viruses
  • Kill bacteria
  • Help with brain development

and a whole host of other stuff having a positive impact on our health. It has even been used for blood transfusions as it closely mirrors the properties of our blood!coconut

So I wanted to share with you why you shouldn’t be without it

For a long time coconuts were deemed bad for us by the anti-fat brigade as they contain saturated fat. The myth that fat makes you fat has long since been debunked, however to the uninitiated these rumours still linger on and so confusion still ensues.

The thing is, despite having almost 90% saturated fats they come in the form of medium chain Triglycerides or MCT’s. Unlike normal saturated fats from say meat, MCT’s are metabolised differently. They go straight to the liver where they can be used as a quick source of energy. That is why having a spoonful of coconut oil helps with carb cravings. Not only that but they can also have therapeutic effects on several brain disorders.

Health Benefits of Coconuts

Straight out of the gate. For those of you who are allergic to nuts and think you cannot eat coconut…

Coconuts ain’t nuts, they are a fruit!

Even though the western diet is just now embracing coconuts and all of its guises (coconut meat, coconut oil, coconut water, coconut milk, coconut flour etc), it has been used in some parts of the world as a staple of the diet for various civilisations for centuries and all report excellent health and no evidence of heart disease. In fact these populations have thrived!

Whether you’re eating the meat, drinking the juice, or consuming it as oil, coconuts are a delicious and nutritious source of fibre, vitamins (C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6) and minerals (iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous). This makes them excellent for all round health health.

Lets look at the various ways we can use coconuts and their properties and see why it is so beneficial…

organic virgin coconut oil raw biona-400gCoconut Oil

Coconut oil is ideal for all sorts of cooking and baking, as it can withstand higher temperatures without being damaged. Many oils have a low ‘smoke point’ where they are damaged quickly by heat (vegetable oil, for example, should not be used for cooking for this reason).

Healthy Immune System.

Coconut oil is made up of healthy fats lauric acid, caprylic acid and capric acid which contain antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral properties to boost the immune system. Lauric acid contains the highest concentration of MCTs, approximately 75%. The body turns this fat into monolaurin, proven to be an effective antibacterial and antiviral agent, which is claimed to help treat some of the most resilient of illnesses such as influenza, cytomegalovirus, helicobacter pylori, urinary tract infections, bronchitis and candida.

Coconut oil therefore helps protect the body from infections, viruses and diseases

Protect Skin

Coconut oil can also be applied in other ways that doesn’t even involve it being ingested.

The oil is excellent for protecting your skin and has antioxidant properties, slowing down free radical damage and aging and can be used to treat skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis and dermatosis. This provides an excellent alternative to using cosmetics full of chemicals.

Studies on individuals with dry skin show that coconut oil can improve the moisture of the skin, can be very protective against hair damage and studies have shown effectiveness as sunscreen, blocking about 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Better mineral absorption

Eating coconuts also supports the development of strong, healthy bones and teeth. It does this by improving the body’s ability to absorb calcium and magnesium. It also prevents osteoporosis, a condition which leaves bones thin and fragile and lose their density.

Coconut milk

Coconut milk is made from a brew of coconut meat and water. Rich and thick and more like cream than milk. You can also get a thinner consistency version created to be used as a milk substitute too and as a refreshing drink.

Unlike cow’s milk, coconut milk is lactose free so can be used as a milk substitute by those with lactose intolerance. It is a popular choice with vegans and makes a great base for smoothies, milkshakes or as a dairy alternative in baking.

It is also a great alternative to human breast milk as it is high in fat and contains a lot of the same properties for babies to thrive on.

Coconut waterVita coco - coconut water

The great thing about coconut water is that it is an all-natural way to hydrate, reduce sodium, and add potassium to your diet. Dubbed nature’s sports drink, it gives all the benefits of a sports drink without the sugar and other often unnecessary ingredients.

It still has some carbohydrates which are completely natural and easily absorbed to replenish depleted stores after a training session as well as containing electrolytes to balance lost fluids.

Most people don’t get enough potassium in their diets because they don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, so coconut water can help fill in the nutritional gaps.

Coconut water is a nutritious and relatively low-calorie way to add potassium to your diet and keep you well-hydrated if your budget allows it.

Coconuts are a natural water filter and takes almost 9 months for a coconut to filter every quart of water stored within its shell. This makes the resulting coconut water completely pure and sterile, which is one reason why it can be used for blood transfusions.

Coconut Flour

Coconut flour is a healthy way to add coconut flavour to baked goods.  It also gives you an alternative to wheat, which contains gluten. Gluten can be an intestinal irritant to a lot of people and so it is wise to substitute it.

Coconut flour provides a great alternative as it contains a lot of fibre and has health benefits for people with diabetes, too: adding coconut flour to baked goods lowers the glycaemic index.

Coconut Meat

Lastly, lets not forget the meat of the coconut.

Coconut meat is perfect for low carb diets and is crammed with fibre, needed for good digestion. On the flip side, coconut meat is the nutritional opposite of what you’d expect from a fruit: It has a higher fat content than carbs, but as mentioned before, these are good fats and essential for our health.

You can buy in several forms. From a fresh whole coconut to dried and flaked.

Why you should add Coconut to your Diet…

There are so many things coconuts can help with it is hard to justify why you shouldn’t have some form at least daily. Lets break down the benefits coconuts are to your health

  • Prevents Obesity – It helps Prevent Obesity by speeding up your metabolism, providing an immediate source of energy with fewer calories than other fats.  People who consistently use coconut products, report a stronger ability to go without eating for several hours with no effects of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
  • Improves Heart Health – providing healthy medium chain triglycerides (MCT’s) that are essential to good health.  Helps to lower the risk of atherosclerosis and protect against heart disease.  Studies have shown that populations in Polynesia and Sri Lanka, where coconuts are a dietary staple, do not suffer from heart disease.  Unlike other fats, the unique properties of coconut also contain a large amount of lauric acid, which is the predominant fatty acid found in a human mother’s milk.
  • Improved Digestion– Many of the symptoms and inflammatory conditions associated with digestive and bowel disorders, by supporting absorption of other nutrients including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids while also providing beneficial dietary fibre.
  • High in Dietary Fibre –rivalling other fibre sources. Coconut supplies an impressive 61% dietary fibre!
  • Reduces Sweet Cravings –Coconuts improve insulin secretion and utilization of blood glucose.  The healthy fat in coconut slows down any rise in blood sugar and helps to reduce hypoglycaemic (low blood sugar) cravings.
  • Low Glycaemic Index (GI) – Coconut fibre slows down the release of glucose, therefore requiring less insulin to utilize the glucose and transport it into the cell where it is converted into energy.
  • Healing Properties – Coconut contains No Trans-Fats, is Gluten-Free, Non-Toxic, Hypoallergenic, and also contains Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antifungal, and Anti-parasitic healing properties.  Coconut helps to aid and support overall Immune System functions.
  • Brain Health. Helps prevent strokes and other brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
  • Quick Energy Boost – Coconut provides a super nutritious source of extra energy.  It is utilized by the body to actually produce energy, rather than to store it as body fat.  It supports improved endurance during physical and athletic performance. As well as promoting healthy thyroid function and helps to relieve the symptoms of chronic fatigue.

Conclusion

With so many positive properties, coconuts are truly a super food and should be added to your diet daily. From cooking in coconut oil, to using coconut water to rehydrate and using coconut milk as a healthy alternative to cows milk, there are dozens of reasons why this should be at the top of your list for healthy options to buy.

To your strength and Health

Small Victories

These days I see people going for it

All or nothing

being in it to win it

No pain no gain

Setting BIG goals and then falling short

Wanting it all a heart beat

Wanting the quick fix, the quick change

BUT

Falling short

becoming discouraged

giving up 3 feet from gold

thinking long term change happens in 5 minutes

But what if I told you

small victories = BIG WINS

keeping promises you made to yourSELF to do something

however small

carrying out the things you said YOU would do… everyday

This will give you confidence

some hope, faith and belief

that 1% change everyday = 365% in a year

1 step at a time, day by day, will bring you closer

to what you want

to who you want to BE

The REAL you

Small victories can make you feel great about yourSELF

they give you the energy to go one more day.

Potential – Action – Results – Belief

take charge of yourSELF

Think, Say, Do!

Being paralysed by fear is worse…

Than failing

Because failing is just a lesson…

if you learn from it

Look for small victories…

Get up 5 minutes earlier

read 20 minutes every day

Meditate every day

Exercise when you said you would

Help someone you said you would

do what you said you were going to do

and see how your life changes

see how you feel

Be True
Be Courageous
Be Happy

Pull the Damn Trigger

There is not one person I know including me who has struggled with this.

to take action.

to have faith and believe in what they are doing

to pull that trigger

to change part or all of their lives

to what they were born to do

to start driving towards their purpose

make no mistake

everyone is on this planet for a reason

we are not just here to make up the numbers

we are here to take action on our passions

what we love to do

So remove the excuses, challenge their hold over you

use 3 powerful words to see…

is that true?

to every story that is holding you back

challenge every thought

you see…

You can make progress and get results

OR

you can make excuses

BUT

You CANNOT do both

so what will it be?

Every excuse, every reason not to start comes from a thought

So catch that thought

and change it if it doesn’t serve you.

why entertain thoughts that debilitate

when you can have thoughts that alleviate and resonate

Focus on what you do want, every thought should be geared towards what you want to do, not what you cannot

Whatever you focus on you amplify

so do you want to amplify fear, stress and Anxiety?

or do you want to nurture love, passion and happiness?

Stop giving yourself such a hard time

Learn to love and forgive yourSELF

stop beating yourSELF up

BE kind to yourSELF

You cannot move forwards when you are looking back

You cannot grow as a person if you are living in the past.

You cannot change your past

you can only influence NOW

The future is unwritten

So what are you going to do about it?

Be True

Be Courageous

Be Happy
