Life By Numbers

Now here’s a common theme….

People sacrificing their health in order to achieve what they feel is success.

And normally it is a number. whether it it how much they make, or a number on a scale. This number comes at the detriment of your health and here’s why…

How long does that feeling of success last when you end up sick or worse, diagnosed with a disease?

Less time than you think!

and Yes, people can take dieting to extremes for the number on a scale, and dieting is NOT health!

How often have scales stole smiles in your life?

We are conditioned to think that it is all about the hustle and grind, that you are not a success unless you have a big bank balance or you are a size zero.

But heres the thing and its a well known saying…

all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. But not only that it can make Jack a sick boy too!

Life is for living, RIGHT NOW.

Not for when you are retired. Whats the point of driving yourself into the ground earning and working to the detriment of your health when you are no longer here to enjoy it?

Look, I know you have to work to have what you want. but lets get some perspective!

it is how we are defining success. its arse about face.

success is having your health and enjoying your life, everything else comes after that.

its about the journey, NOT the destination. Because more often than not, once you reach the destination, whether it is a financial goal or a number on the scale, I’ll dare bet you will feel no different, in fact you will probably feel deflated.

Why?

because the destination does not change anything!

The first step to success is understanding yourself. loving yourself and accepting you are enough just BEing YOU!

You have to START living, stop hiding from your truths. those stories you have buried because you do not want to face up to them.

The only time you have to move forwards is RIGHT NOW!

Be honest with yourself?

How is your health?

Are you full of energy? full of vitality? fit? awake?

No?

Then its time to make a change.

Be brutally honest with yourself.

Have the courage to look directly at what is holding you back and release yourself from it.

The worst place you can be is a place of regret. when your health has deteriorated and you realise that there are things you haven’t achieved, you haven’t been happy or fulfilled and there is precious little you can do about it.

The time is now. time to change. Time to look after you.

One Smart Dude

I watched the film “theory of everything” at the weekend about Prof Stephen Hawking’s life. What an incredible person, who despite everything has continued to amaze the world.

He literally chose to do what he set out to do despite the medical profession giving him only 2 years to live.

Now this condition is very real and life threatening and yet he defied EVERYONE!

You see in his early 20’s he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease otherwise known as ALS. A brilliant man with the world at his feet, I can not even imagine being told you have 2 years to live.

I have known a few people with this condition, who were told they had a short life span and accepted their fate, most without thought or challenge.

Professor Hawkings is now 74!

He simply chose that he had too much to offer the world and too much to discover that he decided that his time was not up.

There are things in life that come easy and some that are challenging and no doubt this was a challenge that I would not wish on anybody.

but here’s what I found totally fascinating about his story.

It reMINDed my how much the power of the mind is incredible!
it can manifest things both good and bad. It can debilitate you, it can create euphoria and pleasure.

Prof Hawkings was a man that simply refused to give up, no matter what happened to him.

In life you can have anything you want, no matter what happens, it is how you choose to react and respond to it.

You can have anything you attract, so focus on what you do want, have the faith and belief to see it through everyday through your thoughts, words AND Actions.

Thinking and saying is not enough we must DO!

Anything is possible.

It made me re-evalute everything. Myself, my business and relationships, everything.

Because even though we all perceive problems, we make them real. But after watching this film I thought how insignificant mine all were.

Thats why I do what I do, to help people see beyond the walls they construct for themselves.

to help them get on track. Action crushes doubt. I know its true. its the only thing that works for me.

Taking imperfect action, stepping up despite how I felt (and I struggled with this a lot)

In life I believe we have to remove the excess. Contract to expand.

Minimise all the superfluous to find the real you.

To cut the baggage loose and find the courage to face your truths and stories. To challenge everything you have come to accept and believe.

The truth is, it is simply understanding and KNOWING the real you and BEING who you were meant to be.

To love who you are and BE who you really are, every day.

To speak from the heart with confidence and understand your values.

To show up everyday and ENJOY life BEING you!

Is Your Goldfish Sick?

Change your Environment for Success

Something to think about…

If you have ever had a goldfish that is sick, what is the first thing you do? you change the water i.e. you change the environment.

So why are we any different?

You have to change what is around you if it doesn’t serve you.

If it doesn’t inspire you it will hold you back.

You can keep going trying to change yourself in the same environment,

but that takes will power and we run out of that pretty quick.

we only get a certain amount everyday before it gets used up.

So WILLPOWER is as reliable as a chocolate teacup… teabag… t-shirt….?.

If its not reliable, so don’t count on it.

Anyway…

Temptation will trump will power every time.

and temptation is all around

So what is the answer?

Be inspired, find your purpose, find your passion

Build an environment and a support network that helps you get to what you really want

if it is about health, losing weight or getting fit then this is what I would recommend…

• If food is in your house, you’ll eat it. So don’t have that food in your house that doesn’t move you towards your better health.

• If your gym is boring, you won’t go. So find something you get excited to go to. Take a friend to work out with and keep accountable with, or go and find somewhere to make new friends who want what you want.

• If you wait till you feel full of energy to workout, you’ll never do it. So schedule it like an appointment. You will get energy BY working out and getting that buzz.

• If you’re surrounded by people who don’t support your goals, they will likely hold you back. Join Assert Fitness and get yourself a strong social support network of fit and healthy people who are as awesome as you

So what are you waiting for?

The definition of madness is keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. So if you are sick of the same thing you gotta change something.

So what are you gonna change?

Be Deliberate…

The best way to change a habit is to alter its purpose.

Do you train as a punishment for eating junk food or are you exercising to improve body composition or performance?

If its punishment then those workouts will always be “punishing” and will always make you feel you did something bad and will have negative feelings towards what you are doing.

If its for improvement then those workouts will help you improve and you will make something become better, which will make you feel good about yourself.

Do you eat anything you want because you are convinced that you can out train your bad diet (how is that working for you?)
or do you eat to fuel your performance for every session, so you can improve your fitness and body composition?

Every skill or behaviour, whether it is improving nutrition or improving in training starts with the basics.

The foundation or building blocks are vitally important to get right, just like when a house is built. Get the foundations right and the house is solid.
Build on it shaky foundations? well we know whats going to happen eventually.

Lets look at movement during exercise. This may start with the way you stand, walk and breathe (and those things are made up of other pieces). Believe it or not, if these are not right, adding more complex exercises will expose you and you have a real possibility of recurring injury.

Eating Healthy could start with your relationship with food, or something like eating slowly and mindfully or even knowing how to compose a nutrient dense meal that will serve your need. Eating fast can run the risk of you over eating. Not preparing meals and eating “on the run” will not give your body the nutrients it needs and will keep demanding from you until it does.

These building blocks cannot be approached randomly. They need order and structure and progression.

You have to intentionally and deliberately focus on what you are doing to improve, whether it is your training or your diet. Nothing can be left to chance.

When was the last time you got good at something without focusing on the little steps first?

When was the last time you got good at something when you didn’t really know why you were doing it?

When was the last time you got good at something when you didn’t focus on how well you were actually doing it and giving yourself a high 5?

If you don’t nail the foundations, if you don’t know why you are doing it or focused on the task, how do you expect to improve?

But when we try something for a reason, aware of how well we did then make adjustments to improve and try again, we learn. We learn quicker, and better.

Because we have our goals and are focusing on them, whether it is weight loss, muscle building or moving better. We start getting a feel for from them, more intuition than having to think about it.

It becomes a habit

so whatever you want to achieve, make deliberate mindful actions to achieve it.

Do not take anything for granted.

Don’t leave anything to chance

take control

and choose!

Be Courageous
Be Happy

Happiness Is…

Does this sound familiar…

When I achieve this I will be happy

When I buy that I will be happy

When I go there I will be happy

When I have the money to do what I want I will be happy

and therein lies the problem.

thinking that happiness is a destination is flawed thinking

you have everything you need to be happy right now.

If you feel unhappy or frustrated with how your life is going then you have the power to change it.

To have a different outcome in your life, simply choose to change your thoughts about it.

You cannot think the same thing, say the same thing and do the same thing and expect a different outcome. You have to change something.

So if it is happiness you seek then simply choose to be happy now.

Choose from right this minute to only do things that make you happy.

you see happiness is the journey you are on, not the destination you have to get to.

so what one thing can you change today, what thought can you challenge to change the outcome of your day?

remember your health is your wealth. Stop chasing your health and happiness and simply decide right now to create a journey of happiness instead of thinking if you just do this or buy that will lead to it.

there is no cart before the horse, just like there is no journey to find happiness. Simply decide to BE happy and then take steps every day to BE happy in everything you do.
